Many people support a charity close to their heart during their lifetime, whether that be through voluntary work, raising money by doing a sponsored activity, buying something at a cake sale, or by making a donation. However, many of those who support a charity during their lifetime don’t know that they can continue to support a charity on their death through their will – this is called a ‘charitable legacy’. Harrogate Council have just confirmed that Chalara (known as Ash die-back) has been identified in a single Ash tree near to the Pinewoods. Swift removal of the infected tree has been arranged by the land owner. As there are a number of young Ash in the Pinewoods members are encouraged to look out for signs of infection when in the woods and report to us if needed. Detail |

Did you know that The Pinewoods is home to a large family of Pipistrelles bats! A number of bat boxed were placed in the woods a number of years ago and are inspected by a licensed bat handler at least annually. Actual numbers have remained steady at just over 20 being found within the various bat boxes and are now seen as permanent residents. These bats are accepted by HM Government as an environment performance indicator and are a protected species. Detail |

At the preview evening for their Spring Exhibition the Harrogate & Nidderdale Art Club awarded a number of prizes including one for the best painting of The Pinewoods, Harrogate. The competition, run in association with the Pinewoods Conservation Group (PCG), encouraged Art Club members to visit the Pinewoods and submit paintings. Detail |

At the Harrogate&Ripon CVS Volunteering Oscars on 31st October our ex chair and committee member Geoff Scurrah was awarded Wildlife Volunteer of the Year. It was the first time this category had been added to the awards that made a member of the Pinewoods winning all the more special. Detail |

An application by Harrogate based charity The Pinewoods Conservation Group (PCG) to have The Pinewoods designated as an official Local Green Space has been rejected by Harrogate Council. The application, made in June 2016, was a formal submission as part of the soon to be released new local plan process. Detail |

A number of special visitors can now be found within the Pinewoods as part of a Summer Scarecrow Stroll. The Pinewoods Conservation Group (PCG) in conjunction with Harrogate in Bloom invited schools, community groups and local businesses to design and install a scarecrow. Detail |
