Local Harrogate charities working together on exciting new initiative.

Two Harrogate based charities have just announced an exciting new collaborative project. The Pinewoods Conservation Group (PCG) and Harrogate Easier Living Project (HELP) have come together to encourage use of the Pinewoods by those less able in the district.

As part of HELP’s “Opening Doors” service, local residents in need of mobility support will be offered assistance to enjoy the nature and wildlife of the Pinewoods.

Frances Elliot from HELP said

“There are many superb attractions on our doorstep of which the Pinewoods is just one. Many of those to whom we offer assistance find it difficult to enjoy them without a little support. We are really looking forward to taking people into the woods and surrounding areas over the summer to enjoy the outdoors.”

PCG chair Neil Hind added:

“Access for All is a key priority for the Pinewoods. Our developments at Irongate field included special wheelchair friendly picnic benches and our resurfacing of sections of the Millennium Path to make usage just that bit easier for those less able. We really look forward to see those supported by HELP in the woods over the spring and summer.”

As part of this initiative the groups are planning a summer social to promote their joint works and to raise funds for this project. A hog roast is planned for Friday 22nd July 7pm to 10pm in the Sun Pavilions in Valley Gardens.

Tickets are available now online via https://event.bookitbee.com/7453/charity-hog-roast/ from just £15 (plus booking fee). The night will include entertainment from local artist Mike Ozen, who has recently featured on “BBC Introducing”, and local choir “All Together Now”.

Tickets are very limited so please book quickly!
