Memorial Tree for Veronica Davenport

This morning we planted a memorial tree in memory of one of our founding Members who died a year ago, Veronica Davenport. It was cold, wet & muddy but we had 20 people there & 11 dogs and there were others that wanted to come but were unable to make it. We planted a native crab apple and put some bulbs at the base. The following verse was read out by one of Veronica’s friends;

There is a list of folks we know

All written in a book

And every year at Christmas time

We go & take a look.

And that is when we realise

That these names are a part

Not of the book they’re written in

But of our very hearts.

For once you’ve met somebody

The years cannot erase

The memory of a pleasant word

Or of a loving face.

Never think our Christmas cards

Are just a mere routine

Of names upon a Christmas list

Forgotten in between.

For you relative or friend

Or just someone we met

You happen to be one of those

We’d rather not forget.

A big thank you to all that turned out & to their dogs! The hole for the tree was dug out at the weekend to save time this morning & fun was had doing that as the soil is very heavy & cloggy. It was equally as difficult re-filling the hole & trying to get bulbs in. Hopefully the tree will like it’s new home and will thrive.
