A number of special visitors are expected to be seen within the Pinewoods over the summer. The Pinewoods Conservation Group (PCG) has announced a new competition - “A Summer Scarecrow Stroll” – that will see the addition of decorated scarecrows along the main footpath.
In association with Harrogate in Bloom, the PCG is inviting members, schools, community groups and local businesses to design and install a scarecrow within the woods. The best scarecrow will be awarded a prize by Harrogate in Bloom at their annual awards event in September.
PCG Chair Neil Hind commented:
“We had such amazing feedback from our decorated bikes last year we wanted to do something similar with members, local businesses, schools and other community groups. With the addition of an award this year from Harrogate in Bloom we expect to see lots of entries within the Pinewoods with a number of organisations already agreeing to participate.”
Pam Grant, President of Harrogate in Bloom added:
"We are delighted that Pinewoods Conservation Group is continuing to support Team Harrogate and Harrogate in Bloom. We are not only looking forward to awarding the best scarecrow a trophy at our awards presentation in September, but also visiting the woods to see the scarecrows in situ.”
It is expected that scarecrows will start to appear late June and be in place until August with judging to take place July.
