A number of special visitors can now be found within the Pinewoods as part of a Summer Scarecrow Stroll. The Pinewoods Conservation Group (PCG) in conjunction with Harrogate in Bloom invited schools, community groups and local businesses to design and install a scarecrow.
These can now be found along the main path from Harlow Moor Road to RHS Harlow Carr and include entries from Scouts & Guides, local schools & businesses and even Harrogate Police. The best scarecrow will be awarded a prize by Harrogate in Bloom at their annual awards event on 27th September at the Old Swan Hotel with a 2nd and 3rd prize also being promised.
PCG Chair Neil Hind said:
“We have been really pleased with the interested this has generated, especially from such a wide range of organisations. We know from the feedback received to date that those who regular use the path have been delighted with the new additions. We are sure new visitors will be too.”
Helen Stalker from Harrogate in Bloom who helped judge added:
“We were really pleased to be asked to judge these entries with the Pinewoods Conservation Group. We were amazed at the quality and diversity of entries that made the judging really difficult but look forward to handing out the awards in September.”
It is expected that scarecrows will be in place until end of July so people are encouraged to visit soon!
