This morning we ventured into the woods with some of our intrepid volunteers to do some balsam bashing! It was raining but it did not deter us and we had great fun….

So much so that we are arranging another get together in a couple of weeks to do some more.

We have now received our commissioned Ecology Report that outlines the full impact of the planned development of Rotary Wood. It also raises a number of concerns regarding the Harrogate Spring Water commissioned report undertaken last year. This report has been submitted to Harrogate Council as additional information to support our objection.

Council Protection for The Pinewoods Extended Thu, 2020-03-05 15:58

Harrogate based conservation charity Pinewoods Conservation Group (PCG) has been granted a renewal of its Asset of Community Value designation for the Pinewood, Harrogate. The Pinewoods, including Rotary Woods and Irongate Field, was first offered additional protection under the Localism Act in 2015 for an initial 5 years. This extension, the 1st ever granted by Harrogate Council, will see this protection extended to March 2025.

HBC is of course planning authority and landowner. It also reported that the council has a continued financial interest in terms of revenue linked to turnover.

On Wed 22nd January a meeting was held between Harrogate Spring Water, Harrogate Rotary and Pinewoods Conservation Group to discuss the Rotary Wood planning application and to discuss concerns. A copy of the notes from the meeting is now available to download as below.

Charity disputes claims on quality of trees as part of planning dispute.

Harrogate based conservation charity Pinewoods Conservation Group (PCG) has disputed claims that Rotary Wood is not a successful woodland that has been supported by a leading horticultural expert. Rotary Wood is currently under threat by Harrogate Spring Water Limited (HSWL) who plan to extend their current bottling plant into wood destroying up to 4 acres of woodland.
