Did you know that The Pinewoods is home to a large family of Pipistrelles bats! A number of bat boxed were placed in the woods a number of years ago and are inspected by a licensed bat handler at least annually.

Actual numbers have remained steady at just over 20 being found within the various bat boxes and are now seen as permanent residents.  These bats are accepted by HM Government as an environment performance indicator and are a protected species.

Charity disputes claims on quality of trees as part of planning dispute.

Harrogate based conservation charity Pinewoods Conservation Group (PCG) has disputed claims that Rotary Wood is not a successful woodland that has been supported by a leading horticultural expert. Rotary Wood is currently under threat by Harrogate Spring Water Limited (HSWL) who plan to extend their current bottling plant into wood destroying up to 4 acres of woodland.

We are grateful to the team at Priestley International Centre for Climate, University of Leeds, especially Anna Gugan & Professor Piers M. Forster, for their research into the carbon loss at Rotary Wood.

The report confirms our concern that the mitigation being offered does not equate to land being lost with regards to carbon loss.

Reporting Anti Social Behaviour Fri, 2021-05-28 10:59

Although anti-social behaviour in The Pinewoods is rare and caused by a minority it is important that issues are reported formally. This will allow authorities to identify any increases in issues and direct any resources needed to intervene as appropriate.

We are therefore asking members and visitors to report any occurrences of:

• vandalism • possible criminal damage • evidence of drug taking • location of fires • large areas of litter

We know our campaign to protect Rotary Wood is generating lots of questions so we've tried to address them here. If there are any further questions then please let us know via email or social media. Our main priorities are to ensure this issue is debated and that any actions are carried out in an open and transparent way.
